The Bayreuth Summer University for Intercultural German Studies is organised on behalf of the University of Bayreuth by the Institute for International Communication and Foreign Cultural Exchange Bayreuth (IIK Bayreuth).
- Small courses (max. 14-16 participants)
- Qualified language courses taught by experienced teachers
- Individual support by the course office staff
- A versatile cultural programme during the week
- Excursions at the weekends
In all courses, our main focus lies in the transfer of cultural knowledge. Such knowledge comprises socio-political, geographic and historical conditions as well as value orientation, patterns of thought and action. The course attendees learn about the system of the foreign language German, considering the cultural background of "German" thought and action, in order to enhance their own intercultural competence.
Our teachers have ample experience in teaching German as a Foreign Language. Some of them studied the subject "Intercultural German Studies/German as a Foreign Language" at the University of Bayreuth. We consider high competence and motivation of our teachers to be of the highest priority.
The employees at the course office are also mostly graduates or students of "Intercultural German Studies" or similar subjects. Flexibility, empathy as well as excellent communicative and intercultural competence are the minimum standards we require of our colleagues. Summer university attendees of previous years appreciated the friendly and competent service.
The quality of our courses also satisfies the requirements for the acquisition of ECTS credits. The certificate confirming the accomplished credit points can be obtained when regularly participating in the lessons and successfully completing a written exam at the end of the course.
