German courses:

Our intercultural intensive courses for German as a foreign language are offered during the semester from October to August with 20 lessons per week.

We adhere to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The language courses take place in small groups of 8 to 16 participants. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the lessons will be more intensive and the teaching time will be shortened accordingly.

You can join our German courses at any time at the beginning of a course phase. A change of course can be made after the first session or at the beginning of a course phase in consultation with the teacher.

Our courses cost 7,00 € per 45 minutes (420,00 € per three-week course phase).

Rooms, tidiness and hygiene:

Depending on the level, lessons take place in our 3 classrooms either in the morning (9.00 to 12.30 am) or in the afternoon (13.30 to 17.00 pm). Our kitchen is of course at your disposal. For a small fee of 20 to 30 cents, you can make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy your breaks with your fellow students. Please wash your own dishes afterwards and put them back in the cupboards. Please also leave the toilets clean and tidy and switch off the lights when you leave. There are hand sanitiser dispensers at the entrance and in both toilet areas We want everyone to feel safe and in good hands 😊.

Teaching material:

The teaching material is customised by your teacher to meet your individual needs. You don‘t need to buy any textbooks or other materials, everything is included in the course fees. However, if you would like to continue practising at home with a special textbook, your teacher will be happy to recommend one.

Project-oriented online self-study day in groups:

In addition to face-to-face teaching on 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), we offer a collaborative self-study day (Wednesday). These are projects that are planned, carried out and presented in small groups. There are curriculum-based work assignments for each level. These are completed online via Zoom. Not only will you improve your oral expression, but you will also learn and test key skills that will be beneficial for your studies or work.

ECTS credits:

We award 4 ECTS credits per three-week course phase for regular class attendance and successful completion of a certificate examination after completion of a language level.

Attendance in class:

Your teacher will keep a daily attendance list. If you are unable to attend lessons for an important reason (e.g. illness), please let us know by e-mail at info@iik-bayreuth.de before the start of class so that we can inform the teacher. We cannot issue a certificate with ECTS points for more than two unexcused absences.

Class attendance is not only important for the teacher’s planning, but also for successful learning progress.

Payment of the course fees:

Payment of the course fees must be made at least 1 week before the start of the course, otherwise we cannot reserve the course place. The total amount will be transferred to the IIK Bayreuth account (you will receive the account details by e-mail after online registration). In exceptional cases, the fee can also be paid in cash on site.

Internal final exam with certificate / telc exams:

After completing the language levels A1, A2 and B1, the teacher creates a valid certificate test, for the successful completion of which an IIK internal certificate is issued.

For levels B2 and C1, internal examinations are only offered to students from our partner universities. All non-partners can take a Telc exam for a fee, which we regularly organise at our institute. In exceptional cases (to be checked by us in advance), non-partners may also take the internal exams for an examination fee of 100.00 €

Examination parts of the internal examinations:

  • Listening comprehension
  • Reading comprehension
  • Written expression
  • Oral expression (assessment is based on oral contributions in the course, presentations, etc.)
  • Regional studies
  • Grammar

Certificate contents:

  • Name, date of birth, country of origin
  • Period of participation

Your opinion is very important to us because we want to constantly improve to ensure your satisfaction. That’s why we carry out a 5-minute course evaluation at the end of each course phase using the Surveymonkey app. This is done simply by scanning a QR code that is displayed in your course room. We will also send you the link to the evaluation by e-mail.

We welcome all praise and criticism and thank you in advance for your time and support.

As a small team, we want everyone to feel comfortable with us and be able to make their own contribution. That is why it is important to us that everyone adheres to our Code of Conduct, which you can here.
